When we travel, we prefer to stay in vacation rentals whenever possible. It’s just more comfortable, it’s a better deal than a hotel, and it makes you feel like a “temporary local”. So, not surprisingly, we ended up renting an apartment in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City).
We found an apartment on Airbnb and rented from a great guy named Tram for our 6 night stay.
Tram currently offers two apartments, both with great central locations. We prefer walking as our primary mode of transportation and these lodgings are within easy walking distance of Saigon’s most popular attractions and some great restaurants and cafes as well.
We chose the simple, yet comfortable 1-bedroom apartment. It had everything that we needed, including a sofa bed for our son, WiFi, AC, a safe, 1.5 bathrooms, a fully-functional kitchen, and even a washing machine. All for a very reasonable price.
The best part about renting from Tram is the level of service and hospitality that he and his apartment manager, Vu, offer to their guests. They were both incredibly helpful and attentive. It was particularly nice to have Vu pick us up from the airport and drive us to the apartment as we were tired from our flight and we don’t speak Vietnamese. Vu also met us early in the morning we departed to help us with our luggage an ensure that we got a taxi.
We had a few questions during our visit and a request for extra sheets for the sofa bed and these were all resolved immediately. Vu even picked up a SIM card for me, helped me get it working, even running down to the local phone store to have it cut to fit my iPhone 5.
Overall, we had a great experience and would not hesitate to recommend Tram and Vu as hosts to anyone visiting Ho Chi Minh City.
